Joe Lance is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who gently pushes back on being pigeonholed into a certain genre or style. A lifelong musician, Joe is passionate about the deep connection all humans have with each other through melody, rhythm, and harmony, and how that connection can manifest itself in folk, electronica, rock, cinematic, jazz/funk, or classical, to name a few.

 

In 2016, Joe was commissioned by the East Tennessee Symphony Orchestra to write an original piece for bluegrass band and orchestra featuring guest artist Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder. Having been a sideman and pit orchestra member for many years, he released his first solo single in 2022. In 2023 he placed in the top 20 of the Score the World 4 competition.

 

Joe holds a Master of Arts in Composition & Theory from Andrews University. He has called Chattanooga, Tenn. home for a few decades, and lives there with his family, whom he adores.
